Obsessions
Nowadays, people can be obsessed with literally anything and can easily be influenced by their environment, favourite celebrities and famous people.
This obsession is a phenomenon that has spread in a huge way. We all know that people’s obsessions about their idols and celebrities by following their daily lives, moves and posts. But this fixation can arrive at a very dangerous point. These obsessions can get out of control and lead to illegal practices known as stalking, that leads, in its turn, to very dangerous results such as affecting the mental and physical health and especially the social life. While, on the other hand, a huge amount of our generation has one of the weirdest obsessions. People can be obsessed with anything, it can be objects like cars, smells, activities and virtual characters such as fictions, movies, animated characters, etc.
As an example, we can find a lot of people obsessed with exercising even though it can be a good thing and even known as a healthy lifestyle but overdoing anything is always harmful. In addition to piercings and body modifications, and eating soil! Even if most people say that it is impossible to eat soil or sand, well some people definitely like it to the point of being addicted to eating it. This condition is actually known as Pica-disorder. Similar to piercings and body modifications, we also find tattooing that can go up to extreme ends such as tattooing eyeballs. The smell of gasoline is one of the most common obsessions these days. Even if these addictions may seem harmless, they can eventually lead to various dangerous effects.
Another common obsession that has become quite prevalent in our society is social media. With the rise of social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, people can become fixated on their social media presence, constantly checking for likes, comments, and followers. This obsession can lead to a distorted sense of reality and a constant need for validation from others. Moreover, it can also lead to the development of social anxiety and depression as people may begin to compare themselves to others on these platforms, leading to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.
In addition to these examples, we can also find people who are obsessed with virtual characters and worlds, such as video games and anime. These individuals can become so engrossed in these worlds that they may neglect their real-life responsibilities and relationships. This can lead to a lack of social skills and difficulties in forming meaningful connections with others. Moreover, it can also lead to addiction and withdrawal symptoms when unable to engage with these virtual worlds.
Overall, it is essential to recognize that obsessions can be harmful, regardless of what they are. While some obsessions may seem harmless and even socially acceptable, they can still have negative consequences on our mental and physical health, as well as our social lives. It is important to maintain a healthy balance and recognize when our obsessions have become unhealthy and are negatively impacting our lives. Seeking professional help and support can be instrumental in managing and overcoming these obsessions.
